Cerebral Photobiomodulation

Cerebral photobiomodulation is a rapidly growing field in neuroscience and brain stimulation.

Several major institutions, including the U.S. Army Veterans Administration, Boston Medical University, San Francisco Medical University, and Sydney Medical University, use this technology.

What is photobiomodulation ?

Photobiomodulation therapy is defined as the use of non-ionizing electromagnetic energy to trigger photochemical changes within photon-sensitive cellular structures. Mitochondria are particularly receptive to this process. At the cellular level, the energy of visible red and near-infrared light is absorbed by mitochondria, which perform the function of producing cellular energy called ATP. The key to this entire process is a mitochondrial enzyme called cytochrome oxidase c, a chromophore, which accepts photon energy of specific wavelengths when operating below normal levels.

The biological response to light is not new; there are many examples of light-induced photochemical reactions in biological systems. The synthesis of vitamin D in our skin is one example of a photochemical reaction.

Alpha and gamma brainwaves

The basis of all our thoughts, behaviors, and emotions is the interaction between neural networks that communicate with each other. This interaction leads to the formation of electrical neural signals called brain waves.

Brain stimulation via photobiomodulation stimulates neuronal mitochondria, increasing cellular energy levels. This results in improved efficiency of neuronal signaling and communication.

The technology we use is the first in the world to demonstrate the ability to modulate and modify brainwaves using NIR electromagnetic energy (light), measured by EEG.

Alpha brainwaves are important when the mind is calm and in certain meditative states. Alpha is the brain’s resting state.
Alpha waves help develop overall mental coordination, calmness, and inner peace. Initial EEG tests indicate that the 10 Hz pulse from the Alpha headset can raise alpha neural waves.

Gamma brainwaves are important when the mind is attentive and learning. Gamma represents the brain’s active state. When gamma oscillations are high, this leads to increased mental acuity. Early EEG tests indicate that the 40 Hz pulse from the Gamma headset can raise neuronal gamma waves.

Brain stimulation technology

Tested by recognized institutions

Several studies have been undertaken and others are underway on the use of cerebral and intranasal photobiomodulation in people suffering from head trauma, post-traumatic stress, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s… (see below)

Photobiomodulation

The mechanism of brain photobiomodulation by red to near-infrared light at the cellular level has been attributed by research institutes to the activation of components of the cellular mitochondrial respiratory chain, leading to a signaling cascade that promotes cell proliferation and cell protection.

Safe and effective

The device we use combines engineering and research to create photobiomodulation devices that improve mental acuity and overall well-being. Our devices are general wellness devices and are not therapeutic devices.

The studies cited are for informational purposes only and provide indications of the effectiveness of photobiomodulation.
However, these studies should be confirmed by further research before they can be definitively validated. Photobiomodulation is not a treatment in itself for any disease and does not replace medical treatment, but it can be a useful complement to your healthcare plan.
