Chiropractic office and functional neurology office in Paris 16

Denis Alemi, Chiropractor in Paris, specialized in treatment of migraines, headaches, back and neck pain and disk hernia

Since its inception, Chiropractic has been based on the relationship between the spine and the nervous system. Whether you suffer from pain (migraine, headache, neck pain, low back pain, sciatica, neuralgia, …) or functional disorders (dizziness, imbalance, post-traumatic syndrome, concussion, …), the functioning of the nervous system is disturbed.
The combination of chiropractic care and rehabilitation exercises in functional neurology could help to :

  • Remove joint blockages and nerve irritation in the spine with Chiropractic care. Which can help reduce or correct muscle pain and tension, improve posture, …
  • Rehab and rebalance the vestibular, proprioceptive, oculomotor systems, … which are affected in by injuries and concussions, with appropriate exercises in functional neurology.

What is Chiropractic ?

Chiropractic is a manual health profession recognized in many countries and by the world health organization. In France, Chiropractic has been recognized since the law of March 4, 2002 (see below).
Many medical studies have shown that Chiropractic is an effective treatment for musculoskeletal disorders such as headache (migraines, tension headache, occipital neuralgia,…) and lower back, back and neck pain (low back pain, sciatica, cervicalgia, cervico-brachialgia, herniated disc …).
The chiropractor is the recognized specialist for the spine and nervous system. The long-term training of the chiropractor (6 years full-time) is a guarantee of competence, seriousness and efficiency for the patients.

Who can be helped by Chiropractic ?

As a chiropractor, over the years, I have had the honor of helping families (children, adults, seniors, pregnant women, etc.) as well as high-level personalities, royalty and athletes. I believe that each person is unique and that the care and rehabilitation that follows should take into account the person in his entirety and his specificity to be able to help to obtain an optimal result.
Most of our patients consult us for chronic problems, whether for musculoskeletal pain (such as back pain, neck pain, herniated disc, sciatica …) or associated syndromes (such as migraines, headache, dizziness or physical and mental fatigue …).
They often express the frustration that the solutions proposed (massages, painkillers, anti-inflammatories, therapies, …) did not provide them with correction or even long-term relief, but simply temporarily masked the symptoms. We seek to provide them with an effective and natural solution to their chronic health problems and to correct the cause of their chronic problems and pain as often as possible.

CHIROPRACTIC OFFICIAL IN FRANCE

MARCH 4 2002, CHIROPRACTORS OFFICIALLY RECOGNIZED IN FRANCE

Article 75 of Law No. 2002-303 of March 4, 2002 on patients’ rights to the quality of the health system recognizes the titles of chiropractor and osteopath. This article provides that « the professional use of the title of osteopath or chiropractor is reserved for holders of a diploma attesting to specific training in osteopathy or chiropractic issued by an approved training establishment ».

Since January 9, 2011 the decrees on chiropractors are out making a clear distinction between chiropractors having the right in particular to make cervical manipulations and osteopaths who do not have the legal right in France!

For information, in France, the title of Dr in Chiropractic is not in the same way as Dr in medicine (as is the case in the United States, Canada, England, Australia, Switzerland, etc.) and chiropractic care are not reimbursed by social security. Many mutuals nevertheless reimburse part of the care.

FUNCTIONAL NEUROLOGY

AN INNOVATIVE APPROACH

Functional neurology is a discipline bringing together various health professionals (chiropractors, neurologists, etc.) with a view to correcting non-pathological neurological problems in a non-invasive manner and through various methods of functional rehabilitation.

Treatment is aimed at re-educating the nervous system. Neurons and the nervous system need fuel and stimulation to survive and thrive, so the functional neurology approach can include specific exercises (oculomotor exercises, cognitive exercises, balance exercises, vestibular exercises, postural exercises, joint adjustments). Different stimuli target specific areas and pathways of the brain and nervous system such as sound, smell, light and touch.

Few questions on chiropractors and chiropractic

Who should I see in France, a chiropractor or an osteopath ?

This is the question everyone asks: « Who to see, a chiropractor or an osteopath? », « What is the difference between a chiropractor and an osteopath? ». The answer is not simple because both are associated with vertebral manipulations. However, two things can distinguish chiropractors and osteopaths:

  • On the one hand the level of education
  • On the other hand, the goal of care

We have an article on this subject (in french)

How to choose a good chiropractor in Paris or in the region?

Choosing a good chiropractor is like choosing a good dentist or doctor. You can base yourself on the experience, the testimonies of other patients, on the follow-up of continuing education and participation in conferences. You can also look on the website of the French Chiropractic Association on the section « Trouver un Chiro »

Can children, the elderly or pregnant women consult a chiropractor ?

For 25 years, as a chiropractor, I have had the opportunity to help from the youngest to the oldest:

  • Newborns to check the spine and the skull which may be under great pressure during childbirth (kiss syndrome, infant colic, …)
  • Children and adolescents to check the spine and joints following sports and falls or for pain, migraines and sleep disorders
  • For adults and high level athletes (see the therapeutic indications page)
  • Up to the elderly for chronic pain, balance problems, relief for osteoarthritis, …

What happens on a visit to the chiropractor?

In our Chiropractic practice, the sessions take place in several stages:

  • The first consultation with the chiropractor helps to understand the reason for the consultation as well as the clinical examination and the start of care. Most initial consultations in our office last approximately 40 minutes. For more complex problems and consultations in functional neurology, this first consultation can last between 1 hour and 2 hours.
  • Once the examination has made it possible to understand what is happening and what there is to do, a functional rehabilitation program is proposed to first relieve but above all correct the origin of the problem.

Is Chiropractic reimbursed by "sécurité sociale" ? What about "mutuals" ?

Chiropractic is recognized in France by the law on patients’ rights of 2002. Despite this, chiropractic care is not reimbursed by the « sécurité sociale ». However, many « mutuals » reimburse part of the chiropractic care. You can request an invoice from your chiropractor which you can send back to your « mutual » insurance company for reimbursement.
